Special issue on

Future Wireless Applications

At the turn of the century, market forces are accelerating the pace of wireless technology innovation. Faster, cheaper, and more power-efficient alternatives are rapidly evolving for wide area, indoor and short-range wireless communication. "Anywhere and anytime access to the Internet" is often quoted as the killer application, fueling much of  recent growth in wireless standards and industry.

Is the role of wireless limited to extending the reach of the Internet, or are there fundamentally new applications that are enabled by wireless access? The aim of this special issue is to invite researchers, academics, and entrepreneurs to share their vision of  future wireless applications. Topics of interest include:

  • Innovative applications of wireless technology
  • Applications of wireless sensor environments
  • Location-aware and context-aware applications
  • Personal area networking applications (Bluetooth, IrDa, 802.11)
  • Novel applications enabled by wireless access in indoor and campus environments
  • Applications of body-area and wearable wireless devices
  • Applications of short-range and low-power wireless appliances
  • Novel Voice and data applications for 3G cellular networks
  • Innovative uses of wireless in the travel and transport industries
In addition to regular full length (8-10 pages) papers, short length (2-3 pages) papers describing entrepeneurial uses of wireless technologies in industry are most welcome.
